I was saddened to hear that New York’s Coney Island Mermaid Parade might not happen this year. I knew the area was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy back in October, but it didn’t register that parades cost a lot of money to throw.

They’ve started a Kickstarter campaign to try to gain the funds to keep the parade afloat. This is one of my favorite parades that New York throws and I would hate to see it go. Take a look at the fabulous give aways at the different pledge levels. There’s even one that lets you hang and dance with my friends The Sexcamaids!!

Today’s topic is “statue”. I’m a little pressed for time due to life stepping in with goodies, so this one was a nice quick one. Topic for today’s Criminal sketch was “noise”. When I submitted this one to the list of topics, I knew I wanted to do something that dealt with my Misophonia. And while there is a long list of things that I feel should be eliminated in the world to alleviate what we go through everyday, it just seemed funnier if Mr Hubble’s solution to the 4S was to go around and steal all the gum from his local markets. Maybe eventually, down the line of his life of crime, he would graduate to picking off motorcyclist one by one from a high vantage point. Or retire from his crimes and spend his last years handing out facial tissues to passerby’s that have the sniffles.

Today’s word for the criminal sketch-a-thon is “laser”. I discussed this one a bit with fellow sketcher Rebecca. For her March 8th sketch in the Billboard #1 hits sketch-a-thon she had done a cowboy totin’ a a laser shark, so I joked the she should do that for this round as well. So we both did versions of that guy. Though she decided not to go the cowboy route in hers.

And so we start another month of a sketch-a-thon. This time around the theme is criminals, and we have a couple more people sketching along with Rebecca and I. A word is picked for us to go off of and then we are on our own. I wanted to do this month’s illustrations as a series of mystery novels, treat them as the covers.

Today’s word was “lunchbox” and I couldn’t help but think of an episode of Abby’s Flying Fairy School that most of the sketchers worked on. A man that finds this throwback to his childhood in some thrift store, but soon discovers that it is inhabited by a creature that will do his bidding. But like most of humanity, the man eventually uses it for selfish crimes.

March’s Billboard Hits Sketch-a-Thon: 2000

And that does it! The year 2000 brings us Faith Hill’s “Breathe”. Sketch-buddy Rebecca’s entry for 1999 reminded me that I hadn’t drawn a dragon yet. And I see that we both had the same idea for this entry as well, taking from the line ““Cause I can feel you breathe. It’s washing over me”. Aw.. what a nice way to end the Billboard #1 Hits Sketch-A-Thon.

March’s Billboard Hits Sketch-a-Thon: 1999

Cher’s “Believe” tops the charts for 1999. I had to do the lines “It’s so sad that you’re leaving. It takes time to believe it”. This is, again, in honor of my friend moving to Philly. Her last day was today (I’m posting this on Saturday, a bit late). The apartment looks a little bare, to say the least.

March’s Billboard Hits Sketch-a-Thon: 1998

Next’s “Too Close” beats out all the other songs in 1998. I wanted to.. wait.. which song. Who? Why have I never heard this song or this artist before in my life and it’s number one on the charts? I guess it must have some beautifully written lyrics to go alo…. nope. Just a song about a guy getting a hardon while he’s dancing next to a woman. Sigh. Ok. I took the line (cringing just typing it out) “Baby, when we’re grindin’, I get so excited”. I just saw a very proud father on “Take your Daughter to Work” day, showing off his favorite part of the recycling factory. Although I’m pretty sure that this little girl grows up to be the instigator of the Robots Are People Too movement in about 20 years.
